LEARNING MISSION WITH CANDENEZ. (LEMICA)

Introduction

LEARNING MISSION WITH CANDENEZ is a project designed to target Vulnerable communities, such as orphans, children from low-income families, unemployed youth, those youth and children who dropped out of school due to financial difficulties, those affected by conflict, are often denied access to quality education. The lack of education perpetuates a cycle of poverty, hinders personal development, and limits opportunities for a better future. The proposed project aims to promote self-employment by educate and support vulnerable children and youth in the community.

Project Goals: The primary goals of the project are:

  1. To re-engage vulnerable children and dropouts back to school and help them learn new life skills.
  2. To encourage self-employment by teaching new life skills to youth and trainings on income generating activities.
  1. To improve the overall well-being of vulnerable children and youth through education and support.
  1. To create opportunity to less disadvantage families, un-employed youth, and make education affordable to vulnerable children.
  2. To reduce risks due to vulnerability within our communities

Project Description: The proposed project will target vulnerable children and youth, who are out of school or at risk of dropping out. The project will work with local schools and community-based organizations to identify and enroll vulnerable children and youth. The project will provide teachings on new life skills, income generating activities trainings, entrepreneurship trainings also provide education materials, such as gadgets, stationary, to ensure that they have the necessary tools for learning.

The project will also train teachers according to lemica project mission and vision, so that the trainings and teachings they provide will incline with the project goal and vision. This will enhance their capacity to teach and support vulnerable children and youth. This will include training on life skills teaching approaches, business management, and child protection. The project will also provide psychosocial support to both vulnerable children and youth through counselling services and group activities.

The project will be implemented over a period of 36 months and will involve the following activities:

  1. Identification and enrollment of vulnerable children and youth.
  1. Provision of educational materials to vulnerable children and youth.
  1. Capacity building for teachers on life skills teaching approaches, business management, and entrepreneurship as well as income generating activity skills.
  1. Provision of counselling services, self-dependent and group activities to vulnerable children and youth.
  1. Monitoring and evaluation of project activities.

Expected Outcomes: The proposed project is expected to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Increased access to life skills education for both vulnerable children and youth in the community.
  1. Create opportunity which will improve capacity of teachers to teach new skills and support vulnerable children and youth in self-employment.
  2. Improved well-being of vulnerable children and youth through education and support.
  1. Reduce the life threatening act to our children and youth due to poverty, e., early pregnancy, street children, jobless, etc. 
  2. Enhanced community awareness on the importance of life skills trainings and education for both vulnerable children and youth.

Budget: The total budget for the proposed project is $50,000. The budget will cover the following costs:

  1. Training centre and training materials for vulnerable children and youth – $ 62,634
  2. Teacher training and support – $15,000
  1. Counselling services and group activities for scholars – $10,000
  1. Monitoring and evaluation – $5,000
  1. Project management and administration – $10,000

Conclusion

Lack of education and life skills is the biggest problem we face in our community today. The proposed project seeks to provide access to opportunities which will reduce poverty and vulnerability risks by providing quality education, life skills trainings and support to vulnerable children and youth in the community. The project will work with local schools and community-based organizations to identify and enroll vulnerable children, and provide them with the necessary tools for learning. The project will also be a good opportunity to un-employed professionals by employing them to work in our centres, as teachers and mentors, the so said professionals will support vulnerable children and youth, and provide psychosocial support to enhance the overall well-being of vulnerable children and youth as well as to reduce jobless people and street children.
